On a two story house you can usually tie the ledger into a band joist also called a rim joist located between the floors as shown below.
Design lean to roof per your local building codes.
The preferred spot would place the lean to under the overhanging.
Use right size of rafters and headers.
Space rafters either 16 o c.
To attach a wooden nailer to a metal sided building use a self drilling screw with sufficient threads to hold the nailer tightly.
Cut the 6 inch thick lumber into blocks that run the length of the lean to.
In the case of a lean to roof over an addition the existing rafters will have to be cut away to accommodate the addition and the shed roof will require support where.
Fasten the nailer to the side of your existing building where you will attach the upper end of your rafters.
If possible nail through the siding into the building s framing members.
Cut out a notch on the top of your posts as shown in the image above.
Ledger should be fastened directly siding removed to the wall studs ledger using min of d lag bolt in combination with fender washers.
If attaching a patio roof to a ledger beneath the eaves does not allow for enough headroom you can set the new patio roof s rafters on the wall s top plate.
